How to configure tax settings?

Setting up taxes is a crucial part when operating your business. With bePOS, we make it as simple as possible for you. It's only needed to be done once and you don't have to worry about it anymore.

To access Tax setting:

1. Open bePOS application and log in under Master Authority

2. On the menu bar, choose bePOS

3. On the left menu, navigate Company section and select Company Info, then Taxes.

Now take a really good look at the Tax Setup screen:

A few important things to note here:

* Exclusive tax vs. Inclusive tax

There are two ways to structure how a tax or fee is calculated:

• Exclusive: The tax / fee is not included in the rate
• Inclusive: The tax / fee is included in the rate

Tax exclusive example:

If you enter a rate of $100 and set up a tax of 10%. The client will pay $110. This is because the tax / fee is not included in the rates you have entered. Your 10% tax has been added to the rate.

Configuration:

• Hair color touch-up: $100
• Tax: 10%

Result:

• Hair color touch-up: $100
• Tax: $10
• Total: $110

Tax inclusive example:

If you enter a rate of $100 and set up a tax of 10%. The guest will pay $100 because the tax / fee is included in the rate. They will see on their booking summary that 10% of the $100 they paid was the tax.

Configuration:

• Hair color touch-up: $100
• Tax: 10%

Result:

• Hair color touch-up: $90.91
• Tax: $9.09
• Total: $100

 * Calculation order when there is discount/surcharge

Discount amount will be deducted from service/product rate before taxes are calculated

Surcharge amount will be added from service/product rate before taxed are calculated

For example:

           Hair color touch-up: $100.

           Tax = 10%.

           Surcharge = $5

           Discount: $10

           Total to pay: ($100 – $10 + $5) * 10% = $104.50

* Notes:

• bePOS support up to 3 types of taxes.
• Tax can be different configured for service and product
• Remember to toggle Active flag on so taxes can be calculated in POS screen.
• For special service/product that does not apply any taxes, you can follow below steps
  • From the Manage tab, click on Services or Products from the menu on the left side.
  • Open a service/product detail screen by click on its name
  • In the Tax section, you can toggle on/off each tax type respectively.
